The algae kept them alive longer than they would have otherwise.

Three of the original 5 are alive. Galowee, Mickey (or Mini I'm not sure which), and Tangerine are still with us. The fish have multiplied. We now have around 20 of them and there are more all the time. I sort of assume there were more small ones but some met the death due to the hunger of their ancestors.

We also added two new kinds of fish: a scum sucker called Gunk Shark and two Black Tips.

We added real plants as well which brought along some snails as a bonus.R K Atheyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08700663060678306110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2188158056976809705.post-43157194710883690452009-06-16T13:19:14.412-06:002009-06-16T13:19:14.412-06:00Any of the original crew still left alive? Is the aquarium still hooked up?

I had an "aquarium" when I was a kid--really the old style: a big glass bowl with no recycler, oxygenator, little rocks, or anything. To keep the fish alive, I had to change out the water for "fresh" water every day. This involved walking out to the cow pasture, scooping water out of the pond (brushing aside the wide algae bloom first). I would then dump yesterday's pond water out of the fish bowl and add the "fresh' water.

It was green and already kinda scummy, but the fish didn't seem to mind.

When the fish finally died, it was a kindness to the both of us.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11693525018637722334noreply@blogger.com
